How to play Mappy
You are Mappy, a police mouse. A gang of cats, the pink Meowkies and their big boss Goro, has hidden stolen goods around a multi-floor mansion. Collect all ten items to clear the round.
- Trampolines are your stairs. Drop onto one to bounce between floors, and hold left or right to step off. A trampoline changes colour with every bounce and breaks on the fourth in a row. See the Mappy trampoline rules.
- Doors are your weapon. Stand next to a door and press the A button (Z) to open or close it. A door opened into a cat stuns it.
- Flashing doors are special. Opening one fires a microwave wave that sweeps cats off the floor for bonus points.
- Collect pairs back to back for a bigger score, and enjoy the balloon-popping bonus round.

About the Mappy game
Mappy is a side-view platform game made by Namco, the Japanese studio behind Pac-Man. It first appeared in arcades in 1983, with art by Hiroshi Ono and music by Nobuyuki Ohnogi. The hero is a mouse police officer named Mappy. The villains are the Meowkies (Mewkies in Japan) and their boss Goro (Nyamco), who have stashed stolen stereos, TVs, computers, paintings and safes in their mansion.
The Mappy arcade game history covers how it was made and released, including the sequels and ports.
Mappy on the NES vs. the arcade
After the 1983 arcade release, Namco brought Mappy home on the Family Computer (Famicom), the Japanese version of the Nintendo Entertainment System. It came out in Japan on 14 November 1984, and that Famicom version is what you play on this page.
Was the Mappy NES game released in America? Not the original. The 1984 Mappy stayed in Japan. The Mappy title that reached the US NES was Mappy-Land, a separate sequel published by Taxan in 1989.

Game not loading? Troubleshooting
- The player stays on "Loading" or shows an error
- Reload the page and press Play again. Some school or office networks block emulator files. The game needs WebAssembly and WebGL, which current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all support.
- The keys do nothing
- Click once on the game picture, then press Enter. Browser extensions that capture keystrokes can interfere.
- No sound
- Check the speaker icon in the player bar and your device volume. On iPhone, also check the silent switch.
- The picture is small on my phone
- Rotate to landscape or tap Fullscreen. iPhone Safari limits fullscreen for web pages, so rotating usually works better there.
